Inspiration

Sometimes I’ll have sections that I’m not quite sure how they fit in the puzzle of a tune, they’ll get moved around; what I think was originally a verse ends up becoming the chorus, or what’s an intro gets dropped as a hook, things get shifted around a lot. Feelings aroused by the touch of someone’s hand, the sound of music, the smell of a flower, a beautiful sunset, a work of art, love, laughter, hope and faith – all work on both the unconscious and the conscious aspects of the self, and they have physiological consequences as well.

Inspiration comes from so many sources. Music, other fiction, the non-fiction I read, TV shows, films, news reports, people I know, stories I hear, misheard words or lyrics, dreams… Motivation? The memory of the rush I get from a really good writing session – even on a bad day, I know I’ll find that again if I keep going.

I think music is so diverse today, and bands are so diverse. If you were a rock band in the Eighties, you kind of had to stick to one thing. Now, in this age of Coachella and European festivals and stuff, it’s kind of anything goes, so that allowed us to try different things.

When you make music, you’re forming these invisible vibrations in the air into different shapes and consistencies and speeds in order to create music, and understanding how the math of that works just gives you more colors to paint with, and allows you to get to what you want quicker.

Vibrations

On Vibrations

I’ve learned that most things don’t need explaining.
They need listening.

Before words, before plans, before confidence there’s vibration.
That quiet signal you feel before you understand what you’re feeling.

We all know it.

You walk into a room and something feels off, even though nothing looks wrong.
You meet someone and instantly feel calm or guarded  without knowing why.
You hear a song and it hits you somewhere deeper than your ears.

That’s vibration.

For a long time, I ignored it. I thought logic was king. Thought decisions had to make sense on paper before they were allowed to make sense in life. But the older I get, the more I realize that most of my best choices didn’t come from thinking harder they came from feeling clearer.

Vibration tells the truth faster than language ever will.

When I create whether it’s music, poetry, or just ideas I don’t start with structure. I start with energy. If the vibration isn’t right, nothing flows. The words feel forced. The sound feels empty. Even if it’s “good,” it’s not honest.

And honesty has a frequency.

Some days, the vibration is low. Heavy. Quiet. Not bad just slow. Those are the days you don’t push. You don’t perform productivity. You sit with yourself. You listen. You let the silence speak. There’s information there if you don’t rush past it.

Other days, everything aligns. Ideas arrive uninvited. Music feels like it’s already written and you’re just catching up to it. Conversations feel natural. You’re not trying you’re moving.

That’s alignment.

People often confuse consistency with discipline. But discipline without alignment becomes punishment. Real consistency comes from respecting your energy. Knowing when to move and when to wait. Knowing when silence is part of the process.

We live in a world that rewards noise. Posting. Explaining. Proving. Reacting. But vibration doesn’t respond to noise, it responds to presence. You don’t have to announce who you are when your energy already speaks for you.

That’s something I’m still learning.

I’ve also learned that not everyone is meant to meet you at your frequency and that’s okay. Some people resonate with who you were. Others connect with who you’re becoming. Some can’t hear you at all. That doesn’t mean you’re wrong. It just means you’re tuned differently.

You can’t force resonance.
You can’t argue vibration.
You can’t fake alignment.

The moment you start trusting that truly trusting it  life gets quieter in the best way. Decisions feel cleaner. Creativity feels lighter. You stop asking for permission from people who were never meant to understand your sound.

So I move based on vibration now.
I speak when it feels right.
I create when it feels true.
I wait when the energy says wait.

Not everything needs to be loud.
Not everything needs to be rushed.
Some things just need to be felt.

And if you’re listening closely enough, you’ll always know when it’s time to move.
